food.<\/h2>\n<p>Fra\u00eeche Ayres opened in May 2007 inside Starke Ayres Garden Centre in Rosebank, Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>Surrounded by plants and garden life, the restaurant became a welcoming neighbourhood caf\u00e9 known for freshly prepared food, warm service and a relaxed setting. Her cooking was shaped by fresh local produce, home-grown herbs, generous hospitality and a love of beautiful garden settings.<\/p>\n<p>When the opportunity arose to take over a small restaurant inside a Rosebank nursery, Pam brought those interests together in a relaxed daytime caf\u00e9. Fra\u00eeche Ayres opened with fresh salads, homemade chicken pie, line fish, quiches, scones and cakes &#8211; food made simply, generously and from the heart.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"fay-wrap\">\n<div class=\"fay-story\">\n<div class=\"fay-eyebrow\" style=\"color:#725f86\">The next generation<\/div>\n<h2>Kyle\u2019s journey to Fra\u00eeche Ayres.<\/h2>\n<p>For Kyle Miller, hospitality has been part of life since childhood. He grew up around the kitchens of the family\u2019s country establishments before gaining international hospitality experience at Stoke Park Country Club in Buckinghamshire.<\/p>\n<p>After completing a Bachelor of Business Science Honours degree, Kyle travelled through South America, Thailand and the Mediterranean, discovering new ingredients, flavours and ways of eating. He later spent two seasons working aboard a yacht in the Mediterranean as a chef, bartender and crew member.<\/p>\n<p>Kyle returned to Cape Town with a broader culinary perspective and joined Fra\u00eeche Ayres in November 2010. Working alongside Pam, he gradually took responsibility for the restaurant\u2019s day-to-day operation and introduced his own recipes, Mediterranean influences and fresh ideas to the chalkboard menu.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, Pam and Kyle published <em>Fra\u00eeche Food<\/em>, a collection of recipes from the restaurant and the story of their family\u2019s culinary journey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fay-timeline\">\n<article class=\"fay-card\">\n<h3>LOTUS Food Truck<\/h3>\n<p>In 2013, Kyle launched LOTUS Food Truck, bringing freshly prepared contemporary Asian street food to weddings, private events, festivals, corporate functions and film shoots across Cape Town.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article class=\"fay-card\">\n<h3>Mill &amp; Press Caf\u00e9<\/h3>\n<p>Mill &amp; Press opened at Mason\u2019s Press in Woodstock in 2015, followed by Black River Park in 2018 and a third branch at the Old Castle Brewery in 2020. The caf\u00e9s also provide corporate catering, office platters and staff meals.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"fay-green\">\n<div class=\"fay-wrap fay-split\">\n<div>\n<h2>Still hands-on at Fra\u00eeche Ayres.<\/h2>\n<p>While developing LOTUS and Mill &amp; Press, Kyle has remained closely involved with Fra\u00eeche Ayres. He oversees general operations and works with the kitchen team on new menu items, seasonal dishes and daily chalkboard specials.<\/p>\n<p>Front-of-house operations are managed by Jean Bosco, who has been part of the Fra\u00eeche Ayres family since 2009.
